Shootings/Injustice

I know I can’t say anything that will satisfy all peoples in wake of the recent shootings by police officers and seemingly innocent black males losing their lives. I’ve seen many post on facebook and around the web regarding these tragedies, but it doesn’t seem to matter how good your argument is, you will always find a counter attack from the other side. I might not do this perfectly, however, I’ve seen certain Godly men that I truly love and respect handle every and all situations in a certain manner, and I want to imitate that.

This world is dark, and we have to recognize that. These two men, they weren’t perfect human beings by no means, but they were people and lives that should be cherished. These officers, they are only men, and sinful men at that. Regardless if they were justified or not, they are men who are prone to anger and hate and to judge wrongfully according to the skin of another man. We see that the world is dark, and these police officers are not exempt from that. However, I can’t make any judgement based on a video that probably caught less than 10% of what really happened. I also can’t make a judgement on a person’s history and background. The world is dark, and our judgement should be in light of that.

Jesus says in Matthew “Blessed are those who mourn, for they shall be comforted.” Today, let us mourn. Let us mourn the lives of two men who were loved by their families and friends. Let us mourn for those who have lost these men as children have lost their fathers and women have lost their lovers. Today, let’s mourn for those who had to witness such violence. Their lives will always be changed from the events that they saw. Today, let us mourn for those families who have lost their loved ones in the line of duty, when they were hesitant to pull the trigger. Let us mourn with those police officers who now have to face more scrutiny with every action they take. Let us mourn for a country that is dealing with social injustice. Let us mourn for an issue that is causing more division between passionate parties. Let us mourn for the black male who fears for his life with every step he takes. Let us mourn for the white male who is tagged as an ignorant racist just for the color of his skin. Let us mourn for the leaders who have to take some kind of action to fix this situation. Let us mourn my friends. Forget what side you are on and let us mourn all these things.

Let us also, and above all else, look to the Author and Perfector of our faith, Jesus Christ. Only in Him can we find our hope, only in Him can we find our rest. We look at the man who was the victim of total social injustice, being beaten for no cause and died a humiliating death for the sins we committed. This man suffered and died so that we didn’t have to according to our transgressions.

Jesus also says “Blessed are the peacemakers, for they shall be called Sons of God.” As christians, whether white, black, asian, native american, latino or any other race or color, let us strive to keep the peace among one another and bring peace to such a delicate situation for many. My prayer is for a complete and just investigation and closure and peace will fill all those effected by such tragedies.
